A caviar tin is sealed tightly to keep the caviar fresh, and a knife or a fingernail can bend the lid or crush the pearls. This caviar opener is made for the job: slip the flat blade under the rim of the tin and lift — the lid comes away cleanly and the pearls stay whole. The polished opener carries an embossed sturgeon, a small detail that makes it a pleasure to use and to give.

How to open a tin of caviar

Take the tin out of the refrigerator just before serving.
Hold the tin flat and slide the blade of the opener under the rim of the lid.
Lift gently, moving around the rim if needed, until the lid comes away.
Serve with a mother-of-pearl spoon, which leaves the flavour untouched.
